Apple goes A/R?

Apple files a lot of patent applications, the majority of which never see the light of production.  That may be the case for this patent, but considering how Apple views gaming as a big win for their mobile products, don’t be surprised if this shows up on the next generation of i-devices.

According to a report on AppleInsider, the patent was just revealed this week and is titled “Interactive Gaming with Co-Located, Networked Direction and Location Aware Devices.” The patent describes a way that the gaming system would use the iPhone’s various sensors, GPS and camera to enhance the gaming experience.

In other news, here’s a whimsical A/R advergame execution for Nestle that uses visual recognition through your device’s camera to function, as opposed to any printed marker.  It’s another step forward in making A/R implementations even simpler for the user, by eliminating one of the steps previously necessary for engagement.
